Like Julie Bindel and others, I’d been feeling a bit of “deep disquiet” with the Society of Authors myself the week before the Harris/Rowling row hit the streets, so I think I’d better put my views on the table.
It is deeply depressing that the freedom to disagree--which was, not so many years ago, considered the very emblem of liberal democracy--has been disallowed by a clique of people who have gained a considerable amount of control over society and are constantly seeking to gain more.
